Two of our heroes are Dick and Mona Alonzo who have designated planned gifts from their estate to support the future services of Covenant House Michigan. Our sincere condolences go out to the Alonzo family with the recent passing of Mona who was a loyal supporter of Covenant House Michigan and other basic needs charities. Mona and Dick were married for 59 years. We asked Dick if he would let our supporters know why it was important to leave a legacy gift:
A: We were fortunate to be in a position to help charities. So, Mona and I decided to direct the money where we wanted it to go. We wanted to give to people who were in desperate need or to a charity who worked with these people.
Years ago, Mona and I attended an event and toured Covenant House Michigan’s Detroit campus, and our hearts were captured. We knew our gifts were going to good use.
Q: Is there anything that comes to mind that you could say to help encourage our loyal donors to leave a planned gift for Covenant House Michigan?
A: We were in a financial position to leave a “legacy” gift, for we know how important the work is that you do for those youth to stabilize their lives. Receiving more planned gifts would help to guarantee a stream of financial support to serve the youth who will come in the future. It is important to help each other, especially those less fortunate, whenever possible.
