For more than two decades, Carolyn Millard, Senior Philanthropy Manager at Covenant House Michigan, has been a steady, joyful, and deeply committed force behind our mission. Wednesday, July 9 she celebrates an incredible milestone — 23 years of service to the young people, staff, and donors who make up our community.

“I love our mission — serving youth who have experienced homelessness and raising funds to help run the programs that guide them forward,” she says. “I truly have fun while raising the funds. I call it FUNraising!”

Since joining Covenant House Michigan in 2002, Carolyn has helped transform the way we connect with donors and raise critical funds. She brings faith, purpose, and love to everything she does.

Carolyn’s journey to CHM began in a way she describes as “divine timing.” She had not applied for the role —in fact, she had only recently moved to Michigan from California. But her resume ended up in the hands of Sister Barbara Celeskey, who passed it along to then-executive director Sam Joseph. The organization’s capital campaign was struggling, and they needed someone who could step in. Carolyn was invited to interview twice, and was ultimately offered a short-term role.

“I had never run a capital campaign,” Carolyn recalls. “But on my first day, I prayed: ‘God, you brought me to this organization to help finish their campaign. I ask for your help and insight.’ It was like a hand fitting into a perfectly fitted glove.”

That 18-month position turned into 23 years of impact.

As Senior Philanthropy Manager, Carolyn has spent those years building long-lasting relationships with donors and supporters across the state and the country. She’s been a trusted steward of our mission and a tireless advocate for our youth.

“Carolyn has been a guiding light — fiercely committed, deeply compassionate, and a true champion for those we serve,” said Tim Hudson, CHMI Chief Development Officer. “Through thousands of donor connections and countless acts of kindness, she has changed lives and strengthened our community in memorable ways.”

When asked what keeps her going, Carolyn points to the generosity of the community and the strength of the young people Covenant House Michigan serves.

“Each one of our donors holds a special place in my heart,” she says. “Thank you for loving our kids and helping them on their journey.”

Today and every day, we celebrate Carolyn for the incredible impact she’s made — and continues to make — on the lives of so many. Her story is a beautiful reminder that purpose often finds us when we least expect it.

Thank you, Carolyn, for 23 remarkable years.
