Thanks to the generous support of
Forgotten Harvest, a metro Detroit nonprofit organization that fights hunger and food insecurity, Covenant House Michigan received a $25,600 grant to replace the more than 20-year-old roof and gutter system on the dining hall of our Detroit campus, both of which required imminent repair.
The roof replacement ensures that ongoing expenses for heating and unexpected repairs are reduced and will remain minimal for the foreseeable future.
Forgotten Harvest is a great community partner. They deliver 144,000 pounds of surplus food per day to local charities five days a week, providing families in need with fresh and nutritious food free of charge.
This project perfectly aligns with Forgotten Harvest’s vision for “communities that work together to end hunger and increase individual, neighborhood, economic, and environmental health” and Covenant House Michigan’s mission to “end homelessness and the systems that perpetuate it throughout an individual’s life and for generations after by providing young adults (ages 18-24) experiencing homelessness or those who are victims of trafficking with shelter, resources, and guidance to help them avoid homelessness, now and in the future.”
Guided by a philosophy of unconditional love, absolute respect, and relentless support, Covenant House Michigan offers young people the stability, resources, and encouragement they need to pursue a future they can be proud of and achieve a secure and prosperous adulthood.
We have served more than 80,000 young people since we opened our doors in 1997.

Our daily meal service was not interrupted during construction and we continue to provide nutritional meals to ensure our young people are well nourished as they strive toward stable independence.
Check out the “during” and “after” photos below. We are truly grateful.
The “finished” roof can be seen below. Thank you also to all of the workers who were out there in the cold for days and hours to get the job done.
