CHMI is proud to announce we have formed our first ever Grand Rapids Advisory Council, a dedicated group of local leaders, professionals, and advocates committed to supporting young people experiencing homelessness. The council will play a crucial role in guiding CHMI’s Grand Rapids location as we expand our reach and deepen our community impact.

“Our mission is to ensure that young people experiencing homelessness in Grand Rapids have the resources, opportunities, and support they need to build a brighter future,” said Stacy Datena, CHMI Grand Rapids Sr. Philanthropy and Engagement Manager, who serves as the council’s coordinator. “This council brings together a diverse group of individuals who are passionate about making a difference. Their leadership will help us strengthen our engagement with the community.”

The Grand Rapids Advisory Council will provide guidance, support, and advocacy through community collaboration. The group was formed as a result of thoughtful outreach to community leaders, professionals, and individuals with lived experience who can provide unique perspectives. Each member was carefully selected based on their expertise, commitment to service, and desire to help young people succeed.

“We want a council that truly reflects the Grand Rapids community,” Datena explains. “Each member brings a distinct voice to the table, whether through their professional background, personal experiences, or passion for youth advocacy.”

Among the council members is Klear Davis, a former Covenant House Michigan resident who now works at Wealthy St. Bakery. He understands firsthand the impact of CHMI’s services and is eager to give back.

“My story isn’t so sad now that I look back on it. It actually molded me into the man I am today,” Davis shares. “It pushed me forward — to push the perspective of helping the youth get out of the streets, to get out of the homelessness mindset. [CHMI lets young people know] there’s always going to be somebody out there for you.”

The advisory council held its first meeting earlier this month and will meet on a monthly basis.

“Members will be able to connect and share their network,” says Datena. “It provides boots on the ground, and with their help, we can achieve the goal of creating awareness and sustainable funding.”

The advisory council is composed of an incredible group of individuals from various industries and backgrounds, including:
