Together We Can
End Youth Homelessness

GRAND RAPIDS PROGRAMS

Covenant House Michigan, Grand Rapids campus is the only residential program serving unhoused youth 18-24 in west Michigan. Recognizing the stressfulness of youth facing homelessness, our trauma-informed program provides safe residence as well as 24/7 case management, mental and physical health stabilization, and life skills and employment training. Highly-trained caseworkers, resident advisors, and an employment and education specialist walk with the youth to secure a high school diploma or GED, full-time work, and permanent housing. Armed with these resources, they can transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency.

OUTREACH

Front line staff reach out to youth through referral agencies and going to where they are living on the streets.

CRISIS CARE

Our 28-bed shelter provides a warm and welcoming space for youth facing homelessness aged 18 – 24 years. Covenant House welcomes all young people facing homelessness with unconditional love, absolute respect, and relentless support, and our shelter doors are always open, 24/7. We provide high-quality services and programs to meet their immediate needs, stabilize a young person’s situation, and help them begin to consider their longer-term goals. We are expertly equipped to respond to the unique needs of survivors of human trafficking and those who identify as LGBTQ.

EMPLOYMENT AND EDUCATION SUPPORT

Young people arrive at Covenant House with dreams that have been disrupted by homelessness. Only about 21% are enrolled in school at the time of intake in the United States and Canada. Advancing educationally and preparing for the world of work are key to a young person’s prospects for leaving homelessness behind. Either directly or through referral, we guide youth to appropriate educational and vocational opportunities, matching each young person’s strengths and abilities with their career interests. We help them hone the skills they need to join the workforce, become independent, and turn their back on homelessness.
