At Covenant House Michigan, we understand that providing shelter, food, and basic needs to homeless youth is only part of the solution. These young people also have a right to safety, guidance, education and, most importantly, to be loved. We believe that it is our responsibility as a community to ensure that every homeless and trafficked young person has an opportunity to pursue their dream, because no young person deserves to be homeless.
The week of November 16-20, 2020 is National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, with November 19 specifically designated to bring attention to homeless youth. As in the past, we will host host our Youth Homelessness Candlelight Vigil to honor those still on the streets and the ones we have lost to homelessness. However, due to the current health crisis, Vigil this year will be VIRTUAL.
Please join our community to light a candle for homeless youth and say a prayer for their safety. We will be joined again this year with our emcees, Amy Lange from FOX2 and Shannon Murphy from Channel 95.5. We will be live streaming from Facebook so please share this link with friends and family so they can sign up and share in the evening.
